A few days back Matt Cutts explained how to link to a specific part of a video. I found this little innovation pretty useful as it allows you to actually deeplink to a certain minute and second of a video or point someone else just to a specific sequence which might be interesting.

Let’s say you have a 15 minutes long video interview but you just want to point someone to a certain question which is at 11 min 24 sec. All you’ll have to do is to add this bit at the end of the video URL: ” #t=11m24s ” , where “t” it’s obviously “time”, “11m” the minute of the video and “24s” the seconds.

Here is an example with one of the latest Matt’s videos which is 3 minutes and 30 seconds long but we just wanted to go at 2 minutes 06 seconds :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMfWPWUh5uU#t=2m06s

Internet marketing refers to the process of promoting, marketing and selling products and services online. This kind of marketing also requires some understanding of SEO and of how search engines work if the site owner wants their website to show up in search results. One of the main benefits of the internet is the fact that both products and information can be marketed online at a much lower cost than had previously been the case. Much of this is due to the fact that internet businesses do not have the same overhead costs as a more traditional company.

Internet marketing is extremely popular and there are more online businesses than ever before. The most immediate benefit of marketing your goods and services over the internet is that it enables you to reach a much wider audience than the traditional business or high street store. Internet marketing enables service providers and their customer base to have a more interactive relationship, largely because of the ability to communicate instantly via email.

Effective internet marketing involves a lot more than just setting up a website and promoting your goods and services, reaching your audience depends a great deal on the proper optimisation of your site.. To be a successful marketer on the internet means that a company needs to formulate a strategy whereby the company’s values, aims and objectives are properly integrated with the function of its website.

One of the best ways to ensure that your internet marketing is effective is to use the services of a professional seo and business management company like Zyas.org. We at Zyas manage over 60 websites in locations as diverse as Europe, Asia, America and Australia. We can optimise your website so that it reaches its maximum potential, and this is only the beginning of our professional and ethical internet marketing campaigns for you and your business.

Search Engine Optimisation or SEO, is an internet marketing strategy that is concerned with how search engines find and index a website, as well as using the right combination of words and phrases to make it easier for people to find the product or service they are searching for. Search engine optimisation involves editing the structure and content of a website so that it reflects the keywords that people are searching for and increases the relevance of that site in terms of index ranking.

Pay per click is an internet method that is used in two ways, in the first people allow ads to be placed on their website and the advertiser only pays for the ad if a site visitor clicks on it. The second way that pay per click is used is tied up with search engine optimisation, and website owners typically bid on key words and phrases that are relevant to the market they are targeting. This is the way that Google works; some companies however do not have a bidding system but use a fixed price for pay per click.

Websites display adverts that relate to the advertisers keyword list, or if a blog or content site has content that relates to that keyword. Among the big three Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, the cost per click is determined by the level of competition for a particular keyword or phrase and the search engine. Sponsored search engine placement is where advertisers bit on keywords to have their ads appear alongside or above where the results for certain search terms appear. Pay per click and keyword research is at the heart of most internet marketing campaigns and some companies will help advertisers to develop their keyword strategies.

If you want a professionally optimised website, with the right keywords and phrases for your target market then you need Zyas.org. We make it our business to ensure that you receive targeted traffic to your website, which will have been optimised so as to get the best search engine results placement. If you are planning an internet marketing campaign then contact us at Zyas.

The idea behind web design is to present the user with content that is specific to the products and services they are looking for. A website consists of both static and dynamic pages, static pages are those pages that stay the same e.g. an about us page or terms and conditions, and these can only be changed by the webmaster. Dynamic pages on the other hand have content that will change depending on their purpose. Such pages can be changed by the webmaster and content (e.g. email address, personal details can be added by clients using java script and/or plug-in that allow for this. Websites are designed using language that is specific to computers e.g. html, xhtml and XML. These ‘tags’ determine where on the website certain information should appear. Some web design requires optional plug-ins in order to incorporate graphics and other visual media.

Web designers will consider a company’s overall aims and mission and, as far as possible, incorporate these things into the design of the website so that is customised for that particular client. Once the particular template or page design is settled keyword research is normally undertaken to find the right words and phrases for the URL, the website header, website description, Meta tags and terms appropriate to the goods or services that the website is offering. This kind of optimisation is directed at what the company have said is their target market.

If you want to ensure that your website attracts the kind of visitors or traffic interested in your product or service then you should hire a professional to undertake your web design and management. At Zyas we can design your website so that it reflects your business’s aims, we can even manage your business and your internet marketing campaigns for you. If you require the help of seo and web design professionals then contact us at Zyas.org for more information on how we can help you.

So, let’s say you have a serious internet business running on a clean, nice and strong website. One Saturday, while you were chilling out a bit you notice that when you search for your website, a strange “This site may harm your computer” message appears next to your site. More than that, the same message appears next to each of the sites you are searching on Google….what would you do?

Some people logged into GWT and sent several messages to Google staff asking what the hell is that, some others joined the webmaster forums trying to find an answer, probably thousands called their web hosts screaming on the phone, others just quickly remembered there is life outside Google and used Yahoo or MSN…some people celebrated (Yahoo staff) some others probably had suicide attempts (Google crew)…and so on…

Today Google, the indestructible search engine, got sick and suddenly the internet froze for about 45 minutes. Today Yahoo and MSN probably had the biggest traffic since the pre-Google era. Was the “This site may harm your computer” bug just an error or was it planned? Oh, yeah…I’ve heard this question already…don’t know what to say…perhaps we should try to understand the winners and the loosers of these 45 minutes.

Google is getting weirder everyday and that’s a fact. First they penalised lots of old and trusted sites, replacing them in SERPS with silly MFA’s and spammy blogs, then they started to manually adjust the Page Rank of just about any site they liked, cutting even more for themselves at Adsense and now they screw up big time with their beloved search engine. Here is a picture for eternity…oh man, I enjoy this one!

Google may harm your computer

Now let’s see the winners and loosers of this funny bug. Certainly the happiest on the web were Yahoo and MSN as they’ve got quite a lot of traffic. The other big winner of the day is Google, right Google. How come? Well, I forgot to mention that the only sites without the “This site may harm your computer” tag during these 45 minutes were the paid ads so obviously the people clicked on all the paid ads like mad since they were the only “clean” sites when googling for something…all the others being potentially infected, right? I’d say Google made big money these 45 minutes, not sure if the advertisers may be considered winners, some of them probably made a nice profit while the others lost big money just because people clicked their ads to see if they are fine and why they are fine comparing to their own sites in organic results.

Loosers of the day? All the publishers since their websites “may harmed your computer” so no visitor was able to check them out and obviously you, me, and all the other people willing to chill out in front of the computer. Other loosers? The honest businesses selling their products or services through one or more websites.

Right…I have another picture for you. The USA.gov site may harm your computer! Hehe…I would expect to see that little tag on Google.tb but not just everywhere! Google.tb? The taleban version of Google eventually…

USA.gov may harm your computer

In the increasingly competitive online market, Search Engine Optimization is one of the main methods used for increasing traffic and thus increasing income. Search Engines are very sophisticated these days and no one understands exactly how they work but one thing that we know for sure is that links from other sites pointing to your webpage will increase its chances of being listed high in the search engines.

This is because each link that points towards your webpage is like having a vote saying that your webpage is good. In the same way that everyone who filled out a ballot paper voted for Obama people linking to your webpage are filling out a ballot paper voting for you to be on the top of the search engines. However, not all links are created equal. Some links are worth more votes than others.

Firstly, links that do not have the ‘nofollow’ attribute are the ones that are valuable when it comes to link building for search engine optimization. Nofollow is an attribute that is applied to some links which tells search engines not to bother following the link. You want to get links without this in most of the cases.. Generally advertising and often commenting on blogs have nofollow attributes however almost all posts within blogs and pages on websites do not have this so their link vote is worth more. Google is pretty much against “dofollow” links and they consider these as being paid links even if in many cases people link naturally. I’d say to concentrate on getting both “dofollow” and “nofollow” links in order to balance your link building campaign.

Secondly, pages with a higher importance is the world wide web count for more if you have their vote. It is similar to if The Pope said you were a good person and if some random bum on the street said you were a good person. The Pope is seen as an important figure and therefore his verdict is worth more that the bum on the street. You want to get links from pages which already have a lot of links going to them, from related and autoritative websites.

Thirdly, links which contain the ‘keyword phrase’ people are searching for are considered to be a more specific vote and will cause you to be ranked higher in the search engines for that specific term. For example say I wanted to be ranked high in the search engines for the term ‘dog washing’ I would have the links to my website saying ‘dog washing’ as this would help me for that keyword phrase. You don’t have to use the same anchor text over and over again…this is bad. Try finding a few other keywords to rank for and alternate the anchor text.

Now you know the basics of why link building is it important let me show you a few simple techniques to build these links:

1. Trade Links
You can obtain a link easily by trading with someone else. You place a link to their website on your page and they place a link to your website on their page. Make sure their website is in a similar niche to yours though as this is most effective for search engine optimisation. Google might be against this but they have a very short memory – link exchange is one of the oldest link building techniques on the internet, since Brin and Page were playing the ball wearing short pants. There are two popular ways to do it. Two way link exchange (described above) and three way link exchange which is quite better.

2. Write Guest Posts/Articles
Guest posts guarantee you at least one backlink and sometimes more. Write a good article and get it posted on a big blog/website and you could get lots of exposure and why not some well deserved backlinks.

3. Buy Links
Generally this is not effective as most advertising links are ‘no follow’ but if you find one which is do follow you can pay to get a link. Obviously Google will say this is a big “No-No” and your website might get penalised, but I want to see a webmaster or SEO guy who never bought at least a link in his own life. I bet that even Google bought links when they were no one working from that famous garage. The world is full of idiots, preachers and arse lickers (just have a look at the comments on Cutts blog), they’ll tell you not to do it but they are worst than the average Joe the Webmaster. However if you plan to buy a couple, make sure these are highly relevant for your niche…don’t overdo it…better build the links on a natural way but I reckon a few good, strong links would always be a nice addition to your website.

4. Comment
Though many comments are also ‘no follow’ many blogs have a ‘Top Commentator Widget’ on their sidebar which appears on their homepage which does not have this ‘no follow’ attribute. By commenting often on their blogs you can appear in this widget and get a high ranking link for free. Be warned, this widget is generally renewed every month so it is an ongoing process to stay there as a Top Commentator. This kind of links are usually low quality and they won’t pass much juice, but still…a link is a link…

5. Directory Submissions

Most of the free web directories out there are just crappy link farms so I wouldn’t recommend to submit just about to any directory. Have a look at the quality of sites already listed before you place your link in there. Paid Directories are pretty much better due to the fact that not any shitty website is allowed. Most of the paid directories have a sort of editorial integrity and they charge a review fee. Basically you don’t pay for the link itself but for the time the editor spend in reviewing your website and approve it (or not). If you have a bit of budget I would recommend to consider submitting to a few strong directories out there.

6. Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking sites are traffic magnets (at least the top ones) , with visitors ready to read the latest news, informations and top stories. Not only you’ll get a backlink from there (dofollow or not, depending on the site) but you can also attract quite a few visitors to your site. These links are usually pretty fast indexed.

7. Forum Posting

Forum posting and signatures are another easy way to get some links. Try visiting forums related to your niche, post questions and answer to other people’s questions. It might be easy to become a popular member and apart from the backlink itself, people would click on your signature and you’ll get some additional traffic.

8. Link Baiting

Link baiting is one of the most creative parts of a link building campaign. You’ll have to come up with such an interesting articles, with some cool links so people will quote your article and link to it.

When you start a link building campaign, try getting as many relevant links as you can from as many websites as possible. Don’t use a single technique, just alternate them and your website will grow up nice and steady. Any questions you have…just ask and I’ll try to reply.
